and Happy New Year to Everyone!

Well I did I turned a year 12/9/00, I can honestly say my
procedure was a total and complete sucess. I couldn't be
more happy with the results and the new me.
I lost my weight hit my goal and have kept it off,
with the new lifestyle I lead I dont even consider my
weight anylonger, I make smart food choices and
live a "normal" life.
I hope my story helps those considering, and those
going thru the early stages, I have made mistakes
along the way and they are documented in the past
months. Learning daily how to adjust to your new
lifestyle in the beginging is one of the hardest things
support is the key, go to meetings, chat on line
with others, build a support network and
be honest with them. If you work the plan
it will work for you.

Thank you Renew of New Orleans
Thank you Dr R O'Connell
Thank you Heather
Thank you Yvette
Thank you to my family
Thank you to my friends
Thank you to all my wls buddies.
I couldn't have done it without you.

This is my first new years eve of my life
I will start without a resolution to lose weight.

From now on I will be only be posting every 6 months.
I will still be happy to answer email questions
and refer everyone to http://www.wlsangels.org
that's the FOA wls support group and info center.

April 20, 2001
17 months post op

I figured I should post somthing here about the current situation.
I am almost 9 months pregnant and yes we were very surprise.
Apparently it is quite common for a woman to become somewhat
more fertal after dramatic weight loss.  Anyway our "surprise"
family memeber will be a little boy and is due May 20, 2001.
This is my third pregnancy and will be my 3rd c-section. I have
had absolutely NO surgery related problems to date.  This is
the best pregnancy, no  morning sickness or heart burn thanks
to my wonderful surgery.  My weight gain is perfectly on track.
My Dr's are delighted, and our little guy is doing great. I probably
will not post again until I hit my 2 year mark.

4/18/01  17 months post op and 9 months pregnant.

Welcome Baby Alex

Born 4/23/01  at 36 weeks,  4lbs 10 oz, 17 3/4 inches long.
Our healthy happy baby boy brought us joy.

Upon delivery I had gotten up to 175lbs,  due to over 3 months of bedrest
and 8+ weeks of hospitalization, and 2 series of steriod shots to help
the baby develope faster.  My weight gain was of concern to me
but to the Dr's it was wonderful because it was good for the baby, and to
be expected.  On 4/23/01 Baby Alex was born to us be c-section,
and we are very proud to announce he has beat all the
odds and is very healthy and absolutely adorable. We might
be a little prejudice because he does look just like his daddy.
The very next day I asked the Dr to weigh me, and they infatically
stated that in no way should I weigh myself for a minimum of 2 weeks
due to all the fluids, and complications,  for they would make my
weight appear higher than it actually is.  We were released from the
hospital only 60 short hours ( 2 1/2 days) after birth. Both of us
doing wonderful.  It took me only 2 days at home before I had to
jump on the scales.  Much to my dismay the Dr was right. It had
appeared I had lost little more than the weight of the baby during
the delivery.  I was crushed.  But by the 4th day home I was wearing
normal size 12 clothes, and today on the 1 week anniversary of my
sons birth I am in a size 10.  Now this is not the size 2 or 4 that I was
prior to my pregnancy but size 10 is definately acceptable. Infact that
is less than 1/2 the size I was prior to my surgery, I was in a 22/24
and somtimes a 26, and considering I just gave birth 7 short days ago
I am delighted.  I weighed today and the fluid weight must be coming
off because the scales are dropping.  This makes me smile.  I am now
over 10lbs down from delivery day, and hope it keeps falling off.
I do know that my muscle tone is completely disolved, after being
hospitalized for so long I lost all muscle in my lower body. I will
have to work to get it back,  this may be a challenge with a
new born.  But I went thru this whole journey to be healthy
and I became proud of my body for the first time in my life
I intend to love it again, and work to achieve this. I have total and
utter confidence that I will again be fit. After taking the wls journey
and proving to myself that I COULD accomplish this goal, after
years of failure, I now know I can do anything I set my mind to.
Infact, I have been told by the specialist called in to help me
stop the preterm labor, that had I not lost all the weight and
become very phsysically fit, my body probably wouldn't
have been able to tolerate the stress and the medical
procedures I had to endure to keep the baby as far along as I did.
So not only did WLS save my life. It has already saved my sons.
After the Dr clears me for excersize I will be getting on track. I am
breastfeeding exclusively so I do have to keep my calories up.
I hope to get down to a fit and firm 6 or 8 by 6 months post birth.
To everyone out there, thanks for your words of kindness, your
encouragement, and your dedication to yourselves. Hang in there
and remember if I can do this,  anyone can.
